MJ Finnigan Ltd’s latest contract is with CSC Construction to carry out the demolition of a school situated at Levenshulme United Reform Church on Stockport Road.

The demolition is one of our most challenging contracts to date due to the highly restrictive boundaries faced on site. The building fronts on Stockport Road, which is one of the busiest  transport routes into Manchester City Centre. In addition to this the school adjoins The United Reform Church which is being retained and redeveloped as part of the overall scheme, and there is a densely populated residential and commercial area immediately to the rear and sides.

The demolition plan is to fully scaffold three elevations and carry out the works using sensitive hand demolition techniques, and complex separation methods on the church elevation.

“It is a challenge which we are all relishing” said Mr Finnigan, Company Director.

The development will provide 14 apartments for rent, shared worship space, a business start - up unit, community radio station and cafe for Inspire Partnership.

The works are jointly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency, Big Lottery Fund and Manchester City Council.
